ENGLISH - BACK TO BASICS

PRESENTERS:  PAM GWIN SHEPPARD, CSR, AND JEFF JUSTICE

COURSE OBJECTIVE:

This 90-minute presentation will focus on refreshing court reporters’ knowledge of punctuation; run-on sentences and other grammar issues reporters run into on a daily basis in producing transcripts for freelance and court proceedings.  We will use worksheets, video, timed tests, real-time scoping, and discussion to improve and refresh our grammar knowledge.

Specific Topics:

•  Top Ten Punctuation Errors

• Run-on Sentences

• Grammatical 1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd person

• Sentence correction

• Synonym/antonym

• Oxford comma

• Sentences that can mean something different with wrong commas

• Live dictation of pages for doing real-time scoping with punctuation

Learning Outcomes:

Court Reporters will be refreshed on the proper use of punctuation and grammar to deliver the best transcripts possible for clients and litigants.
