Court reporters were not taught how often to interrupt, a clear and concise technique to politely yet clearly interrupt, and what is expected versus what is intolerable.
This seminar covers strategies to care for the reporter and attorneys/judges so that professionalism and clarity prevail.

Session 3
Title: “Transcription Tales”
How to master grammar and punctuation: 3 hours

SPECIFIC TOPICS:
• Proofreading excerpt transcripts.
• How punctuation can save lives; i.e., Let’s eat, Grandma; instead of Let’s eat grandma.
• Will cover homonyms, synonyms, antonyms,
• Will cover properly marking exhibits, certifying questions, inserting parentheticals. • Researching materials for medical and technical depositions.
After taking this course, reporters will feel more confident in transcribing their transcripts. They will have a good understanding of accurately composing a well-read transcript. The reporters will have fun while brushing up on their transcription skills.
Session 4
Title: “Stopping Stress Before It Stops You”
Using your sense of humor to manage stress in your life: 3 hours

Content Outline:
The session will introduce the concepts of stress management using humor. It will contain the latest information available for coping with stressful situations that come up for reporters both at work and at home.
I. The participants will discover
• What causes stress for their personality type • The effects of stress on their body
• Simple, practical tools for dealing with stress
II. The participants will learn how to:
• Reduce stress
• Understand what type of people cause them stress
• How their personality type works with other personality types • Deflect and defuse anger and hostility
• Reframe negative situations
• Take themselves lightly and their work seriously
• Reduce and prevent burnout
The session is highly interactive and combines a DISC personality profile, demonstration, lecturettes, behavior modeling, audience participation, the interaction of the presenters, and interactive analysis of the processes involved.
